The Art of Increasing Space in Kitchens
One of the most important aspects of a clever kitchen design is to maximise the space whilst making it functional and practical. One of the biggest factors that still influences the buyer and closes the deal in property sales is the functionality of the kitchen.
With our many years of experience in the industry and our knowledge of design techniques, we can ensure that every square metre of kitchen space is used to the maximum. Here are some ways to do it.
Give a Sense of Depth and Height
Even if the kitchen has a relatively low ceiling, you can create a sense of height and depth by using lines and colors in place. For example, shelves are practical and help to create a sense of height. Using high-gloss and reflective cabinets or mirrored splashbacks are also good ways to create depth. You can also choose slim cabinets and use bright colors to give the impression of height.
Clean Lines Are Important
Clean-lined kitchens are a great way to create space with an uninterrupted eye line. Kitchen counters with innovative storage options will keep your eyes busy along with the walls and shelves, making the space feel bigger and brighter. When it comes to refrigerators, washing machines or dishwashers, it is ideal to hide them or opt for built-in appliances, as this will separate those all-important clean lines.
Lighting is Critical
Even in the smallest of spaces, lighting can help make a kitchen appear larger. People often think that kitchen design is all about furniture and appliances, but choosing the right lighting plays a huge role. Proper lighting can make a small kitchen look larger. In a kitchen that doesn’t have a lot of natural light, the light should be as uniform as possible. If we stick to a clean-line approach, recessed ceiling lighting works great.
Maximize Your Storage
Maximising available storage space is not a difficult task. There are simple solutions that can free up valuable space. Deep pan drawers are also a more efficient form of storage than regular shelves, such as cupboard doors with shelves, extending shelves, cutlery and pan dividers. Sliding or pocket doors are a great example of seamless movement around the kitchen without having to pay attention to or bump into open cupboard doors. This method can also be extended by hiding shelves behind sliding panels, as this helps to create those clean lines mentioned earlier.
